  • Instrumentation: mixed a cappella choir

  • Duration:  4 minutes

Program Note

This work is inspired by the folk chants and wailings found in many cultures.  The text is entirely a made-up language that I invented to evoke a rustic setting.  To ensure that this short work makes an immediate impact on the singers and audience, I wrote a tuneful melody that is treated throughout the work with unusual harmonies and accompaniment.   To honor the occasion of writing for Suwon Chorale, this composition celebrates the fusion of different traditions coming together in one concert.

Text: Sanci Kuni (invented by the composer)

Ya hey ni sanci kuni panti
Ahni sami nu kanna manti
ku santi gu ma tian ahni sami nu
