UCLA: The Other March Madness
UCLA Women’s Basketball is on to the Final Four in search of its first national championship this season. But there’s more madness to March than just hoops. The National Trumpet Competition brings the best of the best together for a weekend, and this year, the trumpet studio brought UCLA a national championship.
In the Vincent Bach Undergraduate Solo Division, Eliás Perry took first place.
In the Bob Reeves Brass Mouthpieces Collegiate Large Ensemble Division, the UCLA trumpets took first place.
“These students have really earned this,” said Jens Lindemann, trumpet professor and brass area head. “They put in the work, rehearsing at 7:30 in the morning, memorizing the piece. I’m so proud of them bringing home this championship.”
The trumpet studio performed Frank Ticheli’s “Vesuvius,” arranged for ten trumpets by a member of the studio, undergraduate Jackson Bacon.
Elías Perry performed the Vivian Fung “Rhapsody for Trumpet and Piano” with pianist Alexa Constantine.”
