Michigan Avenue Magazine previews "Aqua" and "City-Scapes"
Michigan Avenue Magazine previews the June 8th and 9th, 2013 concerts of the Chicago Sinfonietta."...Curated by Jennifer Higdon, “ChiScape” explores four out-of-the-box buildings, each expressed in its own movement. Composed by Armando Bayolo, the first movement is inspired by the Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago, designed by Renzo Piano. Award-winning composer Vivian Fung wrote the second movement, which channels the Jeanne Gang-designed Aqua building. The final two movements—composed by Jonathan Holland and Chris Rogerson, respectively—pay homage to the Ludwig Mies van der Rohe-designed S.R. Crown Hall and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, designed by Frank Gehry. The common denominator in each of these innovative structures is the sense of movement their constructions imply.
